Carlton North - Kitchen Renovation
This 1890s home had been used as a rental property for over a decade and, given its age, the kitchen had significantly deteriorated. The existing cabinetry was falling apart, tiles were lifting from the walls, and the space itself presented challenges—nothing was square, and the adjoining fireplace limited layout options. A full structural overhaul wasn’t within budget, so the focus was on maximising the existing footprint through smart, impactful design choices.
The redesign made the most of the available space, incorporating a functional pantry and accommodating a large four-door fridge to improve accessibility and storage. Sleek white cabinetry by Q&A Joinery was paired with refined hardware from Castella, creating a clean and contemporary foundation.
To achieve a seamless, high-end look, Calacatta Hermitage porcelain from Multiform was selected for both the benchtops and splashback. This not only unified the space visually but also created a striking focal point—particularly around the gas cooktop—delivering a strong “wow” factor without a significant price tag.
WD Constructions carried out the installation, including cabinetry, plastering, framing, and painting. A key improvement was replacing the existing window with a larger pane of glass, allowing increased eastern natural light to flow into the kitchen.
Given the skillion roof, new LED downlights were installed to enhance overall brightness and functionality. The old floor tiles were removed from the concrete base and replaced with Godfrey Hirst hybrid planks in Blackbutt Sandbank, chosen for their beautiful variation in colour. Paired with matching scotia, this brought warmth and a fresh, cohesive finish to the space.
