This compact studio apartment in Fitzroy North underwent a thoughtful cosmetic makeover in 2024, preparing it for sale after many years as a rental property. The brief was to refresh the space, introduce smart storage solutions, and create a sense of understated luxury to appeal to inner city living.

The update included a full repaint, new carpets, and the addition of blinds and sheer curtains to enhance softness and maximise natural light. The original ceiling can lights were replaced with sleek recessed downlights, creating a cleaner and more contemporary feel.

Storage was carefully reconsidered to improve functionality. Custom shelving was added to the laundry cupboard, bathroom, and kitchen. Towel rails were repositioned next to the shower—previously located on the opposite side of the room—allowing for better usability. A cleverly designed pantry and broom closet were also built near the front entrance, seamlessly integrated into the walls and almost invisible at first glance.

In the kitchen, updated hardware made a significant impact. The addition of Brera Pull Handles by Lo & Co Interiors brought a refined, modern edge to the existing cabinetry, elevating the overall aesthetic without the need for a full renovation.

Despite the limited footprint, the design focused on natural light, smart storage, and subtle detailing to transform the apartment into a sophisticated inner-city retreat with a high-end feel.
